Know that half the battle in securing senior level strategy roles is about you rather than just your skill set. Building rapport and influencing at all levels of a business is key to securing that sort after position; 99% of requests I receive are for ex management consultants, yet in many cases the key stakeholders can sometimes be "anti-consultant" so possessing EQ as well as IQ is a must. Secondly, always be prepared to "ace that case". All interviews at this level will involve you demonstrating your structured problem-solving ability.
I began my recruitment career in 2001 working for a boutique executive recruitment firm back in the UK where I successfully recruited candidates for leading management consulting firms across the UK and Europe.
I spent the following seven years focusing on roles across strategy, procurement, change and project management, and was instrumental in the success of critical client recruitment drives. As the Team Leader for another UK based consultancy, I continued to establish and maintain key client relationships whilst managing a team of consultants. In 2005, I set up and ran my own consultancy before relocating to Australia in 2008 to join a Sydney-based international recruitment firm as Business Manager. I joined Morgan McKinley in 2010, with over ten years’ recruiting experience. I now lead the Strategy team at Morgan McKinley and I personally recruit senior level Strategy executives for major organisations across all sectors in Australia, including the management consulting firms.
