Setting KPIs for Both Strategic and Life Goals

Louise Langridge 03.04.2018

As you finalise your 2018 business goals you will no doubt be spending time focusing on what you want to achieve for the year and what your KPIs are. In most business roles we spend three to six months of every year in strategic or business planning.

If I reflect on my own 30-year corporate career I spent at least four months a year on forward strategic and business planning, so that means I spent at least ten years of my life on it. How about you?
Yet, looking back, I ask myself the question:  ‘How much of my time did I spend on my own life design, and in planning out in an integrated way everything I wanted to do in life?’ The honest answer was not much.  I was so busy thinking about the company’s strategic and business goals that I didn’t apply the same rigour and thinking to my personal goals.
What I have come to realise is the most important plan you could ever write, quite frankly, is your life plan.
Now, at the start of the year, it is a good time to think about your life design with due diligence. If you want to make 2018 your best year yet, consider what progress, shifts and adjustments you want to make in your career or broader life plan. I believe in thriving versus surviving, and I know it needs some focused thinking and planning to make it possible. The core of life design is really working out what you want, and blending your career and your personal life, so it’s optimal for you.
As part of my own unique Life Fingerprint and best life journey I wrote Think.Plan.Live.  to help make Life Design practical and attainable to other people who ‘struggle with the juggle’ of integrating a successful career into a successful life. My aim is to de-mystify what the steps of life design are by applying strategic planning principles learnt across my career and applying them instead to Life Design. The approach is based on my own experience of trying lots of things, working out what gives me energy and what my values and strengths are, and how the component parts of my life have made up my Unique Life Fingerprint™.  I have turned those learnings into a step by step practical and accessible journey to enable you to define and design their best life too.
In my executive coaching we take an immersive step-by-step approach to discovering and creating an individual Life Design plan and Life Fingerprint. This coaching has been foundational in creating, developing and honing Life Design into a ‘formula’. Six steps, ten tools, plus other self-coaching stimuli is what is needed to help you navigate your own life design discoveries. Through Think.Plan.Live. and ‘Life Design your way’ I hope to make it accessible and affordable to everybody who wants to discover their unique Life Fingerprint™.
Sure, it will take you dedicated time and reflection to navigate your life design journey, but in doing so the discoveries you make in Who you really are, and the clarity of direction that emerges on your future goals will be really powerful and confidence building. Once you start your Life Design journey I find that it acts as an ongoing compass to help you make life choices in tune with who you really are. Life Design is not something you complete and move on from – your Unique Life Fingerprint continues to be your ‘go to’ place for future decisions, as you make the tweaks and adjustments needed to move you closer to your Life Fingerprint and to navigate life decisions in tune with it, rather than at tension with it.
