Increased Demand for Engineers Prompts Morgan Mckinley to Create New Recruitment Team
Sydney, 17 August 2011 – Global professional recruiter Morgan McKinley has recently launched a national Technical & Engineering division based in its Sydney office, due to continuing high demand for professionals in these fields.
The team will recruit for a range of roles across multiple industries including: construction, infrastructure, mining, energy, property, manufacturing, logistics and FMCG.
Less than a year ago, Australian firms were planning to invest close to $100 billion in engineering projects to respond to demand from Asia. This growth is forecast to continue through H2 2011, particularly in engineering construction associated with the resources industry and major public infrastructure projects.
The boom is driving demand for experienced, qualified engineers and technicians, especially within the disciplines of civil, structural, environmental, rail and geotechnical engineering. In particularly short supply currently are bridge and road engineers, rail design managers and electrical specialists.
In this candidate-short market, there is fierce competition for top talent. Whilst the preference is still for engineers based in Australia, a growing number of companies are offering relocation packages to attract engineers from overseas. In fact, a recent survey by the Australian Institute of Management found that almost two-thirds of large companies are considering hiring staff from abroad to overcome chronic skills shortages. Some multinational companies are also mobilising their global workforces; relocating employees to where the highest need is geographically.
Morgan McKinley’s new Technical & Engineering team will be led by Eleanor Barry who has more than five years’ experience in recruiting technical, engineering and operations professionals in Australia and Europe.
Eleanor Barry, Senior Consultant, Morgan McKinley commented:
“I am delighted to be leading Morgan McKinley’s new Technical & Engineering team in this challenging and exciting time for the engineering hiring market.
“There are excellent career opportunities right now for engineers and technical professionals and the outlook is positive for the remainder of 2011. Whilst the type of roles will vary from state to state, we expect to see a steady increase in the volume of new permanent and contract engineering positions across the board.
“This team is the latest addition to our network of technical recruiters across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, allowing us to engage with employers and job seekers on an international scale.”
